Toby Kolstad has 20 years’ railroad operations and car management experience at two Class I railroads and 13 years’ freight car leasing experience as a vice president at a freight car builder and leasing company. In addition to his work with Rail Theory Forecasts LLC, he is columnist for Progressive Railroading magazine, writing on freight car and leasing matters, a railcar market and valuation consultant, and is involved in railcar leasing activities. He also is a leading advisor for Gerson Lehrman Group Inc. in New York. He holds an BS in Mechanical Engineering from Tulane University, and MS degree in science and mathematics from Cal.
